Resistance to positive thoughts

Like a magnet, the mind does not only attract, but it also repels. Humans are naturally drawn to negative thoughts and can often be resistant to positive thoughts.

Our default way of thinking creates the path of the least resistance. Trying to think positively can be like trying to push two poles of the same type together.

It's much easier to follow the path of the least resistance and get stuck in our old ways. It takes effort to pull apart old thinking habits and form new ones.

One way to deconstruct these thinking patterns is to learn about cognitive distortions. If we learn to recognise these negative thought patterns, we can begin to change them. You can read about cognitive distortions here.
