How can I gain mindsight?

To gain mindsight we need a basic understanding of how our brain functions.

 

Our experiences and thoughts shape connections in the brain. These connections fire in patterns. This is our default mode.

 

Humans naturally lean towards negative thinking. To change our default way of thinking, we need to come off autopilot for a while.

 

Recognise your negative thoughts and question them. To be able to recognise negative thoughts, it is helpful to learn about cognitive distortions. You can read about those here.

 

When you have noticed your own unconscious thoughts, you can begin to replace these default patterns with new thought patterns. The positive ones that you choose. If you do this often enough, this will become your new default.

 

It does take conscious effort at first and becomes easier over time. Reading this and recognising that it is possible, is already the first step.
